Biodegradable cigarette filter

Commercially available cigarette filters form part of the plastic waste in the sea. They consist of the thermoplastic material cellulose acetate and dissolve only slowly in nature. Biodegradable filter material made of cellulose, on the other hand, could be a solution if it is introduced on a broad front.
