Why cellulose is such a valuable material...
Cellulose is a natural substance that is produced by plants and is found everywhere in them: in the leaves, the stem, the roots and also in the wood.
As a structural substance in plant cell walls, cellulose gives plants stability and makes them resistant to the effects of rain. Cellulose makes up 50% of all plant cell walls and is the most common naturally occurring substance on earth.
Cellulose is continuously produced by photosynthesis and is therefore completely environmentally neutral. The plant world produces around 1.5 trillion tons of cellulose every year.
Cellulose is of great economic importance. It is the main component of cellulose, which is used to make paper, clothing and our airlaid.
